Fantasy Island: Where it started, and where it is now
Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells, near Skegness, has been one of the best days out in Lincolnshire since it was built. Though still fairly new, Fantasy Island quickly established itself as one of the most popular funfairs in England and has remained that way ever since. But do what do you know about the heritage of this theme park? Let’s take a look.
1995
After more than three years of construction work on a disused car park in Ingoldmells, Fantasy Island was unveiled in 1995 by HRH, the Duke of Gloucester to the excitement of many locals and visiting tourists. Upon its initial completion, Fantasy Island only boasted the Pyramid complex and a single rollercoaster, Rhombus Rocket – this is far from the rich variety of rides and entertainment now offered at the theme park! Of course, the Rhombus Rocket is still functioning today and is still a firm favourite for both regular and first-time visitors! This shows that since it opened, Fantasy Island has been building the best rides to please every generation.
1999
1999 proved a year of great development for Fantasy Island! To welcome the new incoming millennium with a bang, the theme park approved construction of one of the most popular rollercoasters still standing today: The Millennium rollercoaster. With three fast-paced, thrilling loops, the Millennium ride circles around the Pyramid building, giving daring narrow escapes to exhilarate every rider. Of course, now there are many other rides that visitors can take their pick of.
2016
There are so many things to do at Fantasy Island, and in 2016 The Mellors Group saw this and the future potential of the park! The Mellors Group has a significant background in the entertainment industry and decided to integrate their showmanship into Fantasy Island’s theme park. With new ideas came a bundle of new rides and refurbishments, creating the ideal family day out for all to enjoy! Factoring all of these new changes in, it’s no surprise that Fantasy Island is part of the ELBA (East Lindsey Business Awards) finalists for such nominations as the ‘Customer Service Award’ and ‘Best Holiday Park Of 2019’!
Present-day
As of 2019, Fantasy Island has massively diversified its selection of rides, attractions and entertainment making it one of the best things to do in Skegness. The theme park boasts an impressive indoor arcade with both retro and the latest arcade games for all ages. A choice of three different wristbands tailored to suit each level of thrill-seeker. For the little ones under 0.9m, the Little Explorer wristband is ideal. A step up, the Adventurer wristband is available for anyone 0.9m and up and will give access to both adventurer and little explorer rides. Lastly, the Discovery wristband, suitable for anyone 1.1m and above, gives access to all rides in the park, and is perfect for those seeking out the biggest screams!
